I tried pronouncing the word on my TV screen. AIG comes out age. This is the age of the decrepit financial institution. It's also the time when all my friends are struggling to do business. Gas prices are inching back up again, the state governments wallow in neglect. In these times, the strangest things happen. I've observed: 1) Those who were mostly nutty before this AIG have gone completely berserk. 2) Those who were imminently sane to the point of ennui are the most interesting. 3) People who have a tendency to focus on wordly events have developed even greater skill in communication. 4) People who are hermits by nature are coming out into the open a bit more, because we need them more.
Maybe I'm just talking about my friends, but there seems to be a collective personality shift. The degradation of unsavory greed-based economies has allowed the greater humanity to turn toward each other. Surprisingly, I feel some of this shifting is for the best.
I am praying for a new kind of prosperity, the kind where the most sane develop enough base economy to assist others in greater struggles. This, too, is a reversal of fortunes. In the recent past, celebrities and their fashions drove the economy. If ordinary, sane people could drive the economy, we could become more sober as a nation, more full in creative power and initiative. The earth needs us to turn toward our most sensible, generous self. We cannot avoid this crisis now. We must cultivate our newfound skills.
