Still seeking a name

We had a successful white boarding session on Friday for the conference.

But we still need a name. The goal of the conference is to show how all of these components (blogs, wikis, open source, social networks, video, podcasting, RSS, community building) are interrelated and how they affect each and every one of our lives. The bulk of trusted information is no longer coming from journalist and advertising, but from consumer generated content and ongoing online conversations.

For businesses, when we listed the roles/departments of those who should come we came up with PR, Marketing, Advertising, Management, HR, Legal, IR, CRM, Sales...you get the point I hope.

The next question was how do we tie all these different roles together so they each walk away from the conference with relevant information. The answer came with the fact that each of these roles work together as a team to protect and/or enhance the company's reputation both internally and externally. Each of these departments are also always looking for knowledge, which the collaborative,  open nature of these tools increase the ability to effectively gain knowledge if leveraged appropriately.

The conference is on a Saturday, Feb 10, 2007 and will be free to attend, though there will be pre-registration. The goal is to get the conversation started or turn up the volume about what these trends mean in our lives and how to start embracing them.

Ideas for names needed please!

In my writing workshop I have one rule, "write bad on purpose!" I learned this from one of my favorite professors. Just get it out, grease up your creative engines.

With that said, if you want to submit some brainstorming ideas anonymously, send them to me and I will post them. I have no problem looking silly, foolish, dense, crazy....(I have lots of practice!)

With that said, I will start - some of the brainstorming I came up with is either already taken or completely random with nothing of value except that it might lead to something better;

Open Word (that's the name of my writing workshop)
Talk Back Live! (CNN show)
Discover the Difference (I already stole that line once years ago from a cruise ship ad)
ConvergeSouth (consider that a compliment)
Atlanta Social Media Conference (well - it might just be the one)

yeah... see, I need help here!

submitted to me via email...

Since all of the technology is (more or less) around conversations, I propose -Yak! And that we promote it as Yak7 (7 for the year '07)

Posted by: Sherry Heyl | Nov 12, 2006 8:19:42 AM

How about "Conversation Starters '07"
- "Coversations" because these media are all about the conversations
- "Starters" because so many of us are still getting off the ground with 2.0 stuff
- "'07" because of that year thingy

Posted by: Chris Rogers | Nov 13, 2006 4:31:34 PM

How about "SoMe Mix 07"
- SoMe - short for Social Media
- Mix because we're mixing it up and creating synergy
- 07 - well, the obvious

or

Social Media Smash07
- clear topic
- smash sounds like we're going to mix it up; lots of energy

or

Open Media Connect07
- less emphasis on social, but still Web 2.0-ish
- connect is what we'll be doing

after quickly reviewing your goals for the conference, something in the realm of "Six Degrees of Separation" came to mind. Six won't work, but the idea that these individual tactics are not so far apart [and ultimately most effective when combined] is something fairly easy to build on... conceptually:)

Posted by: Shane King | Nov 14, 2006 2:57:09 PM

I thought I had one, until I tried to pronounce it....but I will throw it out there anyway to see if anthing grows from it.

Con'next'ions a play on the words next connections, as in the present and future ways we will be able to connect....

How about LinkUp? As in the 2007 AMB LinkUp

Posted by: Nicole Klein | Nov 22, 2006 10:36:48 AM

The more I think about it, I really think Atlanta Social Media Conference says it all. I like the idea of hyping ATLANTA’S social media scene. I think that’s really important to draw on region.

Posted by: Grayson Daughters | Nov 22, 2006 2:48:46 PM

I'm with Grayson. No need to get fancy and just obfuscate things.

Posted by: Amber | Nov 26, 2006 10:45:37 AM

Don't know if you saw this, but on my blog, my friend Dacia wrote the following about the conference name:

"I don't think this is off-base in meaning but might be kind of lame as a conference title... something like 'Digital Culture: Interact'? Something short and snappy is preferable unless you want a purely academic audience. Maybe 'Clicked On'? Meh."

Posted by: Amber | Nov 26, 2006 10:36:04 PM

What about:

1)Inter-Comm. Conference (for Internet Communications Conference)
2)The Baskin-Blogins Conference (all the flavors of internet communication)(this one was just for fun ...but you never know)

Posted by: Brian Moody | Nov 27, 2006 3:11:14 PM

I'm aligned with Grayson. Atlanta is important if you want to own social media in the southeast. Keeping it simple but descriptive is important especially if you are targeting people other than marketers (most of whom still don't get the term 'social media')who have not a clue what social media is ("sounds like some sort of techical party or networking" .. so said someone to me recently)a tagline might be helpful.

Posted by: Toby | Nov 28, 2006 10:04:13 AM

SoCon. It's pretty much that simple. You can still extend it out to Social Media Conference, but yeah. SoCon (umm ... pronounced "So" ... and ... "Con").

You can thank me later.

Atlanta-SocioMedia-Blogtastic-Wikipalooza.07

or

ASMBW.07 for short!

Cheers!

I personally feel like there's a lack of synergy in the blog. I also feel that the target is not broad enough and should not be limited to Atlanta in the title. You need to incorporate what kind of snacks will be served at the function to draw more integration in audience. Therefore, I propose this meeting be called BLOGSTOCK '07. Imagine the possibilities with the block letters- t-shirts, posters, psychadelic promotional products, laser light shows, the opportunities are endless! You can even use an overhead projector or laser- pin-pointing device. It will draw millions and will end up in pure synergy and integration, or "syntegration" which title in itself, but lacks web 2.0. (Know what I mean?)

I still vote for just Atlanta Social Media Conference.

We need a name soon so we can look more put-together when contacting potential sponsors.

Posted by: Amber | Nov 30, 2006 12:02:25 PM

We will have a name in a few short weeks and I really enjoy some of the creative suggestions we are getting. This conference is about the tools and trends that enable community and collaboration, so let"s keep the doors open for suggestions for just a few more weeks.

having had a nurse from Atlanta, I know what
to name your conference. Too bad I can't come up with the acrnym.

How about

Web 2.1: Positioning for Participation

Posted by: Celenda Perry | Dec 1, 2006 9:23:07 AM

Let's jump right in front of the wave and go Web 3.0! Or Web 3.1 (beta). I think our audience will appreciate the upgrade. And for those on the cutting edge who don't mind a little instability, they can be beta testers. The marketing value of beta-testing fans is great to hype our new product while also improving on it.

Lets just incorporate that somehow. All these suggestions are great so far.

Posted by: Tom Purcell | Dec 1, 2006 10:09:41 AM

I like Toby's SoCon. I would go with SoCon7 or SoCon 07. I think "socon" is good since it can be for Social Networking/Media/Content/Search/Etc. but also for "South". It's also really simple to remember.

The Georgia 2.0 Un-Conference

Posted by: Leonard Witt | Dec 1, 2006 11:34:54 PM

BLOCKSTOCK 07 is where it's at. I also like Tom's idea of Web 3.1- the abbreviated logo could be:

" BS 3.1 "

Posted by: Jane | Dec 2, 2006 12:35:53 AM

My deepest apologies! I meant BLOGSTOCK 07. Also, to follow up on my last comment, to increase synergy we should integrate the Web 3.1 with '07, so :

"BS 3.1 07"...We could even switch the numbers to form a secret code in the blog and make a whole blog language out of it- kind of like the numbers are used in LOST. I'm not sure if I'm over thinking this, but the possibilities are just flooding through my keyboard!
